My career to date has wound through multiple industries and countries. Most recently I crossed paths with the behavioral health world of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as CEO of Behavioral Tech Institute – the worldwide training organization for standard DBT. As a daily meditator, the emotion regulation tools of DBT resonated with their emphasis on mindfulness, and dare I say, the strategy of using irreverence to disrupt emotion dysregulation. (Yes, irreverence is one of my superpowers.) But getting back to the origin story of CTC, one of the needs I noticed in running a behavioral health training company is the limited opportunity for clinicians to practice the skills they learn in one-time training events over an extended period of time – to bake them into muscle memory like the way a tennis player uses a ball machine.

Furthermore, role plays with debriefs are the primary teaching tool, and either participating in live role plays, or watching others doing it, comes with a high ticket price. Suffice to say I’ve been working on solving that issue. But, let’s go back to that cryptic “Behavioral Health eLearning Collaboration” LinkedIn title for the past year, because it implies I’m not alone in this endeavor. Indeed, Dr. Francheska Perepletchikova, who adapted the DBT model for working with children (DBT-C) is the co-founder (and dear friend), and together we are rolling out accessible accredited, evidence-based behavioral health trainings to get more therapists out into the world (starting of course with DBT-C), and an associated Resource Library Subscription as a first step towards our goal of creating immersive practice opportunities.
